About Karyn

For nearly nine years, I studied Bel Canto vocal technique under the private instruction of the very reputable Toronto-based tenor, Mitch Seekins (www.mitchseekinsvocalstudio.com, www.mitchseekins.com). My training has afforded me the versatility needed to sing various genres of music, including pop, rock, musical theatre, R&B, and even opera.

Throughout the 1990’s, I was involved in acting with theatre companies and in university stage productions in the Niagara, Ontario and Greater Toronto regions. In later years, my role there shifted from lead acting to directing and vocal coaching for the cast of the productions.

For several years, I performed my original rock music (with a band) throughout Ontario and upstate New York at festivals, concerts, coffee houses and clubs, before I moved to Massachusetts and formed another band here. I’ve since appeared at coffee houses and festivals.

For eight years, and most recently at the largest church in New England on a weekly basis, I have been involved in contemporary worship leadership, which has entailed leading and directing an entire band with multiple instrumentalists and back-up vocalists with different ranges, as well as planning song arrangements. I have been invited to guest lead with my worship band (as well as speak on the topic of worship) at various churches throughout southern Ontario and Massachusetts.

I have also written articles on singing, song selection and worship leading that are published in nationally-distributed magazines such as Christian Sound and Song. Subsequently, I have provided expert information to various singers and worship leaders who have written to or e-mailed me in response to those articles.

Currently, I am teaching vocal students both privately in my home studio and at a local music store, both in Pepperell, Massachusetts. My students range in singing styles from adult contemporary to pop to rock to jazz to classical to liturgical, and include a wide range of ages and skill levels.
